Emporium Shokuhin...

Most Japanese restaurant in Singapore specialises in one or two dishes. Even if they offer an extensive menu, they only have that 1-2 dishes unique to them. Thus, it’s hard to find one that serves a wide range of Japanese cuisines and at the same time, all the dishes are equally tasty. The one that is the closest to this would probably be Emporium Shokuhin.

Located at Marina Square, Emporium Shokuhin is Singapore’s first integrated Japanese Emporium featuring a live seafood market, a beef dry-aging facility, a Japanese Gourmet Grocer and 8 unique dining concepts, all in one location as an exquisite epicurean destination. In short, Emporium Shokuhin is a mini Japan heaven in Singapore.

Recently, Emporium Shokuhin launches its Signature Card which allows diners to indulge in 6 signature dishes from its eating establishments at only $99, instead of paying the usual $224 for all of them. Not only can you enjoy a wide variety of Japanese dishes, you also get to save over 55% of the usual price. With such an attractive promotion, I don’t see a reason why you shouldn’t pay Emporium Shokuhin a visit!

For such a sumptuous spread, you only pay $99 if you purchase the Signature Card from Emporium Shokuhin.

Chef's Sashimi Fuji Platter (Usual Price: $88++) // Takujo Japanese Dining
The usual price for this beautiful sashimi platter at Takujo Japanese Dining is already $88++! It is definitely very value-for-money if you purchase the signature card. In this platter, you get to choose 5 types of the day’s freshest sashimi which includes Chutoro. Besides the Chutoro, there’s also Ika, Scallop, Hamachi, Ehime Mikan Dai with red vinegar jelly and complimentary Ikura in the platter. Sashimi-lovers will be impressed with this!

Lobster Scallop Burger (Usual Price: $28++) // Umi + Vino Seafood Wine Bar
This was extraordinary. The grilled homemade patty of lobster and scallops works. It was flavourful and juicy. Just one gentle bite and you can feel the juice oozing out from the patty. The fries were very tasty as well. So addictive!

Chirashi Don (Usual Price: $19++) // Senmi Sushi
The Chirashi Don was bursting with flavours! In it, a medley of fresh tuna, salmon, swordfish and shiromi sashimi with cucumber and omelette on a bed of Nanatsuboshi rice from Hokkaido. They were very generous with the portion they served. Definitely good for sharing!

Special Ultimate Blend (Usual Price: $18.80++) // Burosu Honten Gyoza & Ramen
The ramen broth was sweet, and has a subtle prawn flavour which hits right at the end. The noodles were springy. Again, they were generous with the amount of kani (crab) chunks, chashu and prawns they add in the ramen. Overall, it was a huge portion!

A5 Miyazaki Misuji (Usual Price: $32++) // GYUU + Yakiniku Grill
How not to love this? The beautifully marbled top grade A5 Miyazaki Misuji beef was flavourful and has this smoky BBQ flavour which won the hearts of many. The beef was tender and juicy.

Valrhona Chocolate Cake (Usual Price: $7.20) // Kohi-Koji Bakery & Cafe
The Valrhona Chocolate Cake was rich, moist and chocolatey. The texture was extremely good, soft on top and crunchy when you hit the hazelnut base. Berries were also added to neutralise the jelatness.

Phat Cat Laundry...

Still remember the laundromat-themed restaurant & bar at Jiak Chuan Road? Yes, Phat Cat Laundry is back with an expanded menu that features more exciting Asian-inspired food to go along with their creative drinks. If you have followed me closely on my previous post on Phat Cat Laundry, you would already know that it is one of my favourite to-go restaurant & bar in 2016.

Recently, they have widen their food selection so as to provide more options for the guests. Phat Cat Laundry has definitely raised their bar higher this time round, given that they have worked and improved on the feedbacks they have received. I was very impressed with their new dishes, especially their latest desserts which were a notch higher than the ones I had previously.

If you haven’t been to Phat Cat Laundry before, I'll encourage you to do so. It is a nice place for you to chill the night away with your colleagues or friends after a long stressful day of work. Be it food or drinks, you can count on Phat Cat Laundry.

Chill the night away with Phat Cat Laundry’s exhilarating cocktails and delectable Asian-inspired food. It’s a food & drink heaven!

Before indulging in the new menu, you have to order their specialized cocktails to go along with the food. Just tell the bartender your preference and he/she will whip out a drink specially for you in no time.
Foam Party
Lemongrass rum, orange curacao, burnt lime, smoked pineapple, coconut cream, tiki bitters. This cocktail is more towards the sweeter side. If you don’t really like too much alcohol taste in your drink, then you should go ahead and order this. Well, I prefer mine to be a little stronger!

Old Fashioned
I requested the bartender to make me a clean and strong old fashioned and I’m glad she didn’t disappoint me! So good that I was so tempted to order another one!

Mussels Gratin // $14
I’m in love with the succulent and juicy oysters. The spice and cheese went very well with the oysters. There’s a little kick of spiciness at the end but I thought it somehow trigger this reaction which I can’t seem to describe that cause you subconsciously to eat another oyster again. It definitely was a good complement to my drink. A very deadly combination!

Smoked Duck Quesadilla // $18
The smoked duck quesadillas caught me by surprise in a good way. It looked very dry but thankfully, it wasn’t. The duck was well-marinated and very juicy. A small bite into it and you’ll see huge amount of juices dripping down onto your hand. The only thing that I thought could make the dish even more perfect and complete is to provide some sauces to go with the smoked duck quesadillas.

Mapo Chicken Wings // $14
People who can’t take spicy food, you got to watch out for this! The mapo chicken was definitely spicy but I love it. The flavour was strong and it got me so addictive after my second wing.

Mammoth Pork Knuckle Tacos // $36
The pork knuckle was insanely huge, and definitely good for 2-3 people. The pork knuckle was so crispy that you will hear a very distinct crackling sound when you gently cut it. The meat inside was not dry and flavourful. They also provide some tortilla wraps for wrapping up the pork!

It comes with three different types of sauce: Pickled Red Onions (Kimchi), Lemongrass Aioli and Phat Cat BBQ sauce. I was very impressed with all the condiments because each of them were good in their own way. Definitely complemented the pork knuckle very well.

Affogato // $12
Brazilian coffee ice cream, gula melaka cream, koko crunch.
The combination works but the gula melaka flavour was a bit stronger and I’m not complaining! Perfect dessert on a hot scorching weather!

Halo-Halo Sunday // $12
Ube and coconut ice cream, nata de coco, jackfruit, palm nuts, corn flakes and evaporated milk.
A simple looking dessert but it stole my heart. Ice cream was rich and creamy. It was not too soft or not too chunky!

Pineapple Sticky-Rice-Sotto // $12
Coconut risotto, chunks of pineapple cooked in brown butter, butter crumble, yuzu-pear infused honey drizzle.
This dish is sort of the black horse. I don’t think many people will appreciate this dessert. For me, I really love the flavour but I thought the texture of the risotto could be better. It was a little too hard. Also, they could probably lessen the portion because it gets very jelat after awhile. Adding a scoop of ice cream can also neutralise the dryness of the dessert.

Thank you Phat Cat Laundry for the great hospitality once again! You can also read my previous post on Phat Cat Laundry: http://sgcafehopping.blogspot.sg/2016/12/phat-cat-laundry-singapores-first-ever.html  to find out more about this place!

Citrus Bistro...

Decked within Sengkang Swimming Complex, Citrus Bistro is a new Halal restaurant that offers simple and affordable Western cuisines. Contrary to its sister branch – Citrus By The Pool at Woodlands, this new outlet has an exclusive menu that features some of their signature and popular dishes such as Sliders with Nachos & Penang-inspired Curry Chicken (my favourite).

Citrus Bistro is also very beautifully-decorated, especially the rustic lights that are dropped from the ceiling (essentially ropes) which caught my attention even before I stepped into the restaurant. The relaxed and cosy ambience, together with the view of the lively and bustling fun pool & slides, completes the entire dining experience, making it very memorable. So, if you are around the area or done with your swimming, you should really pay Citrus Bistro a visit with your family! Also, show this blog post upon at the cashier to get a 10% off total bill when you dine at Citrus Bistro. This is only valid from now till end of April and is not applicable with other promotional items. Entry to Citrus Bistro is free for dine-in customers. Just call 69044850 and the service crew will you up at the entrance of the swimming pool!

The dishes at Citrus Bistro are down-to-earth and simple. Nothing fanciful but yet memorable. I’ve got to say some of their dishes did impress me.

Tom Yum Seafood Pasta // $10.80
The pasta was aromatic and flavourful. The tom yum flavour was really rich and robust, and it gets very addictive after a few mouthful. Portion was quite huge as well!

Smoked Duck Breast // $19.90
The smoked duck was definitely well-marinated and tender. Probably should slice it into smaller pieces so as to have better texture. The sauce, on the other hand, was flavourful and addictive. Mash was on point as well.

Chicken Sliders with Nachos // $10.90
The burgers were not too bad. Chicken was juicy and tender! I guess kids would really love this!

Curry Chicken with Rice / $9.90
The curry chicken was my favourite at Citrus Bistro. It was rich and flavourful, and goes very well with rice or bread. Chicken definitely absorbed the essence of the curry and the meat was super melty. A must-try!

Molten Chocolate Lava Cake // $8.80
The molten lava cake was rich and creamy. It literally melts in my mouth. Chocolate-lovers will fall in love this. There’s also a scoop of vanilla ice cream to neutralise the jelatness! Wish it was bigger!

Thank you Citrus Bistro for hosting me! Head to www.facebook.com/CitrusBistro to find out more!

Nesture Bird's Nest...

Bird’s nest is known to be very beneficial for both men and women of all ages because of its rich and nutritional value. Regular consumption of bird’s nest has traditionally been known to aid in digestion of food and nourishing the lungs and stomach, thus supporting functions for a healthy body. A healthy dessert after meal or before sleep, bird’s nest also supports healthy-looking complexion which I’m sure the ladies would all be aware of.

Here’s a piece of good news for all bird’s nest and dessert lovers. Located at the ground level of Valley Point Shopping Centre, Nesture Bird’s Nest is Singapore’s first-ever café that offers an extensive range of aesthetically-pleasing and mouth-watering desserts which are all infused with bird’s nest. Besides that, they also sell premium bird nest which are shipped all the way from their base in Indonesia. So, if you want to purchase the real deal (non-bleached bird’s nest), you can do so either at their shop or from their website. Also, remember to key in my promo code: yongweikai15 to redeem $15 off (subject to delivery terms and conditions) when you order Bird's Nest online from Nesture Bird's Nest. This will be valid from now till the end of April for the 1st 50 customers! Hurry before it's gone!

Other than indulging in their bird’s nest goodies, we also got the chance to learn how to differentiate the types of bird’s nest as well as how to identify the quality of the bird’s nest. I was fascinated to find out that non-bleached bird’s nest actually smelled and tasted eggier than bleached bird’s nest. Also, non-bleached bird’s nest takes a shorter time to dissolve in water as compared to bleached bird’s nest. Overall, it was really an eye-opening experience! I guess this would aid me in choosing better bird's nest in the future!

Nesture Bird’s Nest sells a few types of packaged bird’s nest which are all non-bleached. Also, they have ready-made bird’s nest that comes in different flavour. Definitely safe to eat! One more thing to note about their bird's nest is that they were not too sweet which I really liked!

Bird's Nest Drinks (Honey Lemon or Ginseng with Rock Sugar) // $6
For $6, you get to choose between Honey Lemon and Ginseng with rock sugar. Both drinks are infused with strands of bird’s nest. My favourite has to be the Honey Lemon because it is sweeter as compared to the Ginseng with rock sugar which was bitter. The Honey Lemon was not overly sweet but still refreshing!

Mango Pomelo Panna Cotta with Bird's Nest // $8.90
What I liked about the desserts here are that they are all not very sweet and that’s a good thing because you won’t feel jelat after having a few bites. The panna cotta was rich and soft. Mangoes were sweet (thankfully it was not sour) and the pomelo as well. Finished off with some bird’s nest on top of the fruits.

Baileys Tiramisu with Bird's Nest // $8.90
My least favourite out of the three not because it’s bad but because it pales in comparison to the other two. Tiramisu was soft and flavourful but I thought it was too watery.

Bird's Nest Gula Melaka Creme Brulee // $8.90
Personally, this was the best out of the three. The crème brulee was very soft that it literally melts in my mouth. The bird’s nest here definitely enhanced the flavour of the crème brulee, making it extremely deadly addictive! One small scoop of it and trust me, you’ll finish it in no time!

They also serve a range of assorted cakes that are only $6.90. The cakes definitely caught me by surprise. Again, they weren't too sweet and really fluffy as well. My picks are below!

Mango Cake
Carrot Cake
Lychee Bandung Cake

Their flavoured macarons are super good and I think all the ladies would definitely fell in love with them.

Brownie
We were all taken by surprise by how delicious their brownie was. Fudgy and sinfully chocolatey!

Waffle with Bird's Nest and Ice Cream // $14.90
Are you kidding me??!! They even have waffles! Doesn’t this looks amazingly gorgeous?

Orh Nee with Bird's Nest served with Coconut Ice Cream // $12.90
This is one dessert you must try at Nesture Bird’s Nest! I thought the bird nest complemented the orh nee the best out of all the desserts we had at the café! It was super addictive!

Thank you Nesture Bird's Nest for having me! Definitely felt that my complexion was glowing with radiant after consuming so many bird's nest inspired desserts! Remember to key in my promo code: yongweikai15 to redeem $15 off (subject to delivery terms and conditions) when you order Bird's Nest online from Nesture Bird's Nest.
