Yomoda Soba...

What do you usually eat when the weather is scorching hot and you have no appetite? If you are into the Japanese culture, you will know that Cold Soba Noodles is one summer go-to staple in Japan because it’s light and refreshing. So, during the unbearable hot and humid summer, most Japanese would eat Soba to cool them down.

Now, we can also eat Soba like the Japanese in Singapore. Located within Japan Food Town at Wisma Atria, Yomoda Soba is a well-known restaurant in Japan that serves handmade soba freshly made on-site using 100% buckwheat from Nagano, Japan. All the ingredients are imported from Japan as well. Besides offering a variety of traditional and fusion soba, they also have delicious Tendon set to go with the Soba. Hurry and head down to Yomoda Soba at Wisma Atria Level 4 before the queue starts to get longer!

Using only the real centre part of buckwheat, Yomoda’s Soba has the characteristic elegant fragrance and pure white colour of “Sarashina Soba”. The soup for Kake Soba is KANSAI (West Japan) style, using light soy sauce mixed with dashi stock from mackerel, sardines, bonito, kelp and shiitake mushrooms. If you don’t like soba, they also offer Udon that uses the flour from Sanuki Udon to make their own Original Sanuki Udon which is cut as thinly as their regular Soba noodles. The Soba Noodles were light and springy. Also, they were very generous with the servings. I don't think I could finish it all by myself.

The Tendon set was surprisingly delicious because from the appearance, I thought it was going to be super dry but thankfully, it wasn't.
You can find a variety of prawn, braised pork, chicken, paprika, pumpkin and kidney beans, dipped in tempura batter in the Tendon set and it is served with a dipping soup.
My favourites were the pork belly and chicken. Probably because I'm a meat-lover. The meats were flavourful and tender as well! Before I forget, the Tendon set comes with rice at the bottom!

Tendon Small + Seiro Soba (Cold) or Kabe Soba (Hot) // $20
I thought the prices at Yomoda Soba were extremely friendly and value-for-money! Like what I said earlier, I couldn’t finish my food because the portion is huge!

The place is relatively small. So, you really have to go down and try before it gets packed!
