Sawadee Thai Cuisine...

Sawadee has been around in Singapore for 15 years now but I never knew their Thai food was so remarkable. To celebrate their 15th anniversary this year, Sawadee has rolled out a brand new menu that elevates and injects a welcome dose of zest into authentic Thai cuisines that we are otherwise all too familiar with. In short, you don’t have to travel all the way to Thailand to satisfy your Thai cravings because you can now do so at Sawadee.

Located at 9 Tan Quee Lan Street, Sawadee uses only the freshest ingredients from Thailand as they believed in a cook-to-order restaurant that balances the intense and robust flavours of Thailand - sweet, spicy, salty and sour. In frame, also happens to be one of my favourite dish from Sawadee, Mao Shan Wang Durian Sticky Rice. Instead of the usual mango sticky rice we always see on the streets in Thailand, Sawadee has come out with its own rendition of sticky rice which is very familiar among the Singaporeans. The Mao Shan Wang flavour was really strong and aromatic. Its smell was taking over the entire restaurant. Overall, I love how well the combination turns out to be. Definitely refreshing and its only $12!

Pomelo Salad // $12 (S) & $18 (L)

This was very refreshing. The pomelo were really sweet and juicy. It goes very well with the well-marinated minced pork, prawns and peanuts. Definitely a good appetiser before I tackle the mains.

Papaya Salad // $12 (S) & $18 (L)

I would very much prefer the Papaya salad as compared to the Pomelo Salad. The papaya salad has more flavours and textures. The papaya slices were really crunchy and the dried shrimps enhanced the overall flavour of the salad. Once you start, you can’t stop!

Tom Yum Soup // $12 (S) & $18 (L)

This is what I call a real ‘Tom Yum Soup’! The soup was real spicy (everyone was either sweating or wiping their tears away) and flavourful. Just one sip of the soup and I immediately woke up. I could also taste the different herbs and spices used to make the soup because it was very rich. They were also generous in the portion of seafood they put in the soup. If you can’t take spicy food, do not, I repeat, do not order this!

Pan-seared Black Angus Beef Ribeye // $32 for 220g

The beef was well-marinated and tender. There’s this smoky flavour in the beef which I really liked. The green curry sauce was mind-blowing. It was aromatic, flavourful and very addictive. The sauce was supposed to go with the beef but I just drank the sauce on its own. It was really good and I can’t resist it.

Thai Stuffed Chicken Wings // $12 (3pcs) & $18 (5pcs)

This was very easy to eat because the chicken wings were already deboned. It was stuffed with mushrooms and spices, making the meat very flavourful. The portion was relatively huge, and the Thai chilli sauce just completes the entire dish. How can we not dip the chicken wings into the home-made Thai chilli sauce? A must order at Sawadee!

Spicy Steamed Sea Bass // $32

The fish was really fresh and sweet. It didn’t have a fishy smell or taste which is one of the reason why I usually don’t eat fish. If the fish is not cooked or steamed properly, there’s this raw taste which I really dislike. Thankfully, the fish at Sawadee was steamed properly. The spicy sweet and sour sauce used to marinate the fish was really clever because it covers the fishy smell and taste of the fish. I think this dish would be a hit among the young and the old. If you are bringing your whole family here, then this is probably one of the dish you must order!

Fried Fish Maw with Beansprouts // $14 (S) & $20 (L)

Very simple dish that reminds me of home. This was the kind of dish my mum would cook for me when I was very young. It has this very homely feeling which I really liked.

Superior Seafood Fried Rice // $18 (S) & $28 (L)

I was damn impressed with the fried rice. It was aromatic and the rice wasn’t very sticky. I could easily finish all the rice by myself. Thumbs up to the Chef who was cooking this!

Sawadee Olive Fried Rice // $14 (S) & $20 (L)

Again, another fried rice you might want to order if you don’t really like seafood. I would prefer this version of fried rice as compared to the seafood one. This was more flavourful and fragrant (in my perspective).

Thai Style Otah on Clayplate // $10 (4pcs) & $16 (7pcs)

We were all excited when this was served onto our table. This is probably one of the prettiest otah I’ve ever seen in my life. However, I thought the flavour could be stronger and the meat could be tenderer.

Mango Stick Rice with Coconut Ice Cream // $10

This was “da bomb”! Mango Sticky Rice is the emblem of Thailand! I mean everyone travels to Thailand for their mango sticky rice. This was really good and the portion is insanely huge. Definitely good for 4 people! I also loved the rich and creamy coconut ice cream at the side. Damn good for the hot weather!

Pandan Tea & Lemongrass // $5.50

Butterfly Pea Flower Tea // $5.50

Thanks Sawadee and The Good Folks for inviting me and my squad #slaysquadsix. Flying to Thailand is not an option anymore with Sawadee!
