Breko Cafe...

Breko Cafe is another gem in Holland Village. With such good ambiance and food, it wasn't surprising to see why this cafe is always so crowded. It's definitely one of the reasons why you should pay a visit to Holland Village.

(Signature) King Kong Burger // $18.50
Similar to it's name, this double patty beef burger is enormous and it's definitely meant for sharing! I had a hard time trying to finish everything because the portion was too big! The beef patties were tender, juicy, and well-marinated. The buns were also grilled nicely, leaving the top part of each buns slightly crispy. The bacons were well-cooked and crispy. When put together, the burger is bursting with many different flavours. However, I was not very impressed with the coleslaw as it was bland and I also find it too watery. The fries were ordinary. Overall, the King Kong Burger was pretty tasty and remember it's meant to be shared.

Buffalo Wings // $8.90
The buffalo wings were really good! Not only was it well-marinated, the meat was also tender and juicy. I really like the flavour of the wings, and it also leaves an unresistable aroma on your fingers. Definitely the dish you might want to order if you want to experience sweet, salty, and spicy at the same time!

Nutella French Toast with Chocolate Ice Cream // $9.90
This is my favourite dish in the cafe and I got to say this is one of the best french toast I've ever tasted. The toast is so soft and fluffy, and it goes extremely well with the nutella that has already infused into the toast. Needless to say, the chocolate ice cream was also delicious.  There is a subtle taste of rum in the chocolate ice cream that was refreshing but not too empowering which further adds more flavours to the entire dish. I would definitely be back to try their toast again. Really very impressive!

Oreo Milkshake // $6.50
Nothing beats having a smoothie on such a hot weather. This milkshake was well-blended and well-balanced!

I was there on a Friday evening and they were already filled with so many people in their cafe (People were also queuing outside). Also, this is how the cafe looks like from the inside! Not too bad, and they also have a second floor.

People are waiting to get seated and this is how their cafe looks like from the outside!

Refuel Cafe...

I'll get very excited whenever I hear that there's a restaurant or a cafe that does not have any service charge. I mean who don't? Refuel Cafe is one of the few cafes in Singapore that sells pretty delicious food at relatively affordable prices and with no service charge. Located in Bedok, this cafe is small but very cosy. The concept and design of the cafe is also simple and modernistic. No doubt why it's so popular in the East.

This is how the cafe looks like from the outside.

The concept of the cafe is simple and modern.

You can order their food at the cashier when you are ready and wait for the food to be served. Just prepare your phone to take pictures!

Waffle Bacon & Scramble // $11.90
I think this was my favourite dish in Refuel. Waffle was very crispy. Scrambled eggs were soft, and fluffy. Bacon was crispy and well-marinated. Salad was fresh and well-dressed. Basically, there is nothing to pick on this dish.

Seafood Spaghetti // $13.90
This dish was pretty ordinary, nothing much stood out other than the fresh prawns they used. It would be better if they were to add more sauce.
Bacon Aglio // $11.90
I didn't quite like this because I find it too dry and tasteless.
In general, I was not very impressed with their pastas, not because they are not nice, but it is not as good in comparison to the other food that is offered in the cafe. The portion for the pastas are relatively small as well.

Pancake Stack // $7.90
To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed when this was served onto my table. At first glance, you might think that the portion is very small but you will be wrong when you attempt to finish every bits of it. I couldn't  because it's too much even though it was really very delicious. The pancake was soft and fluffy and it goes so well with the ice cream, especially in this hot weather. Definitely the perfect match from heaven!

Overall, I am very impressed with Refuel. Even though there is no service charge, they still provide good service. The staffs were all very friendly and that definitely made my day. Thank you Refuel for the great hospitality!

Craft Bistro...

Holland Village is a very popular destination for both tourists and locals. Not only is it known for its interesting night life, it is also filled with diverse restaurants and cafes. Craft Bistro, otherwise referred as Craft Bakery & Cafe, is one of the many cafes located in Holland Village. I've already been here a few times before but my last experience with the cafe was so bad that I think it would probably be my last time visiting Craft Bistro.

Two weeks ago, I called Craft Bistro to make a reservation for 24 people on the 6th of November at 8.30pm. They were quick to pick the phone up and the staff who answered was also very friendly. Three days later, they called me again to inform me that we had to spend a minimun of $15 per person as we were going to occupy half of their place. I could totally understand where the staff was coming from because I was also working in a restaurant but to be honest, I felt that her tone could be improved.

On the actual day itself, I called them to inform that we will be 10 minutes late as we were caught up with our dance trainings. She sounded very angry and annoyed over the phone but I was too tired to argue with her. I rushed down immediately after class in my friend's car first as I was the one making the reservation. The rest went to take the public transport. When I was finally there, the senior staff or maybe the boss (I presumed as she was bossing everyone around) looked so angry and irritated. She passed us the menu and walked off.

I felt very apologetic because all my dancers were late, so I decided to order some drinks and desserts to start off with. I ordered their Peanut Butter Molten Lava Cake, Lemon Meringue Tart, and Matcha Cheesecake. The Peanut Butter Molten Lava Cake was not very impressive. Chocolate was not flowing out from the lava cake when I cut it into half and it was not warm. Also, they just added peanut butter on top of the lava cake which I thought is uneccessary if they do not complement one another. It feels like I'm eating two seperate things altogether. The Matcha Cheesecake was pretty good. It was not too sweet and the cake was very moist. The Lemon Meringue Tart tasted the best, a very good mixture of sour and sweet which is very delightful to the tastebuds. The tart was also very crispy.

Their Lemon Meringue Tart is really good! Nice combination of sweet and sour!

After about 20 minutes later, everyone arrived and we ordered our mains. Of course, the staff was, as usual, pissed. She was staring at us most of the time and shouting at her colleagues. I tried to avoid having eye contact with her because I'm worried I will get myself into an argument with her if I do so. Her face was so black which tells me how disinterested she was in serving us. We were spending so much money in their cafe and this is the kind of service we get? It's really ridiculous!

Their mains were pretty decent. I think we ordered almost everything on the menu and I will share some over here. I didn't quite like the Salted Egg Carbonara I ordered but some of my friends liked it. It tasted a bit weird to me and I couldn't taste the salted egg at all. The other pasta that we ordered was the Grilled Prawn Aglio Olio. It was not too bad and the prawns were huge and fresh. Other than the pastas, we also ordered their Cordon Bleu, Grilled Chicken, Beef Burger, Mushroom Burger, Fish & Chips, Har Jeong Kai Burger, Sandwiches, Truffle Fries, and Churros. Overall, everything tasted not too bad but I would strongly recommend their Beef Burger, Grilled Chicken, Har Jeong Kai and Churros.

Grilled Prawn Aglio Olio - Prawns are really big and fresh.

Salted Egg Carbonara - Didn't quite like it but most of my friends do. Tasted a bit weird for me but you can try it for yourself!

Har Jeong Kai Burger and Fish & Chips

I reckon I will not visit Craft Bistro anytime soon but I would sincerely hope to see an improvement in their service because good service is really very important. I would rather go to a place with good service that sells decent food than to one that sells delicious food but has bad service.

Ciel Patisserie...

Located in the Hougang neighbourhood, Ciel Patisserie offers a wide range of exquisite pastries, from cakes, tarts to quiches. Not only are they known for their delicious pastries, they also offer different types of tea, ranging from red tea to black tea. Above all, the prices are relatively cheap and affordable. (You can enjoy a pastry and a cup of tea for around $10) It is definitely the right place for you to spent your afternoon without burning a huge hole in your pocket.

The Fuji (Matcha-flavoured) is one of their best seller. It is not only a piece of art, but also delightful to the tastebuds. The external layer (Pudding), was soft and melts instantly in your mouth while the internal layer (Cake), was fluffy and moist. Both layers complement one another perfectly. The amount of matcha used was also appropriate, not too empowering and artificial.

On the other hand, the Chocolate Almond Tart was nice but not as impressive as the Fuji. The amount of chocolate used was appropriate, not very jelat, and the crust was crispy. However, you can easily find something similar elsewhere. It's nice but there is nothing special about it.

They offer so many different varieties of pastries and they all looked so delicious. How I wish I have a bigger stomach to eat everything here.

Very cosy and comfortable. I can totally imagine myself spending the entire afternoon here and it is also the perfect place to hang out with your friends.

It's quite easy to spot Ciel Patisserie, just opposite Lickers.
